Pretoria, the Administrative capital of South Africa was founded in 1855 and named after the famous Voortrekker leader, Andries Pretorius. Pretoria was declared the administrative capital of the South African Republic which was once the Boer Republic of Transvaal.

Andries Pretorius became the national hero of the Voortrekkers after his victory over the Zulu kingdom in the famous battle of Blood River.

The founding of Pretoria as the capital of the South Africa movements of the Groot Trek. Pretoria is a beautiful city draped with Jacaranda trees filled with purple flowers during October and November.

Voortrekker Monument - A commemorative museum for the courage, determination and persistence of this country’s pioneers – the Voortrekkers. The founders of the former South African Republic were honoured by a colossal monument – the Voortrekker Monument – situated on Monument Hill
Paul Kruger House – This was the “humble abode” (final residence) of Paul Kruger, the most famous President of the Transvaal Republic from 1893 - 1900, before he went to exile in Clarens, Switzerland where he died in 1904. President Paul Kruger was buried in Pretoria at Heroes Acres.
Church Square – here church services were held in the early days and it is dominated by the statue of Paul Kruger and this square is now a venue for trade and recreation
The Union Buildings – This is where the Presidential and Administrative Offices are with it’s beautiful gardens and the statue of the replica of the Delville Wood Monument found in France and when standing in these gardens you look out over Pretoria and you can see the Voortrekker Monument in the distance
