LESEDI CULTURAL VILLAGE
Lesedi Cultural Village is a tourist village which celebrates the cultural traditions of several different peoples of Southern Africa. It reproduces traditional dwellings and offers demonstrations of dances and other cultural activities.
When South African icon Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu first christened South Africa the “Rainbow Nation”, he was referring particularly to its peoples and their varying cultures. From Zulu people to those of Xhosa origin, to the Afrikaners, the English and the Coloured people of the Cape, South Africa has a rich diversity of people and cultures and 11 official languages. Lesedi Cultural Village is one of the best tourist attractions in South Africa, allowing visitors to really explore the glorious diversity of the people of this land.
Set amid rocky hills and bushveld less than one hour’s drive from Johannesburg, and on the way to Sun City, Lesedi Cultural Village offers visitors a chance to encounter people of Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Ndebele and Basotho origin.
You’ll meet real people (not actors in fancy dress), enter their homes and listen to stories about their individual cultures and rituals of daily life.
Departure: Daily at 10h30 Return at approx. 15h30
Depart to Lesedi Cultural Village where you will enjoy true African hospitality as a guest of the people of Lesedi. On arrival enjoy a drink before we start a tour of the villages with a cultural Host and learn more about African traditions and customs.
The tour will cover 4 different villages which are Zulu, Sotho, Venda and Pedi. The Sotho are the people of the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, where you will probably meet the Sangoma, if she is in attendance.
After the tour of the village, the drums will invite you to the Ingoma to see a Traditional display of dancing of the various tribes after which you will get a chance to join in the dancing. There is also a crafts market. After the dancing sit down to a lovely and partly traditional lunch. After lunch we return you to your place of departure.
